Freshmen Bats Guide Bengals To Centenary Win

EUNICE, La. –  LSU Eunice baseball used a standout performance from its freshmen to help secure a 13-1 victory over Centenary College on Monday at Bengal Stadium.  The Bengals (24-7) saw its rookies account for nine of the team's 12 RBIs, while also producing six of the team's eight hits.

LSUE pushed out to a 3-0 lead after two innings using a wild pitch, error and bunt single to get ahead of the Gents.  Reed Eason (West Monroe, LA, West Monroe HS) had a hand in all three runs, scoring twice while bringing home Grant Mangrum (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) on a second inning error.

Eason did not produce an official hit but accounted for two RBIs and two runs scored.

Centenary would not see its first hit of the game until the fourth inning when it would score its lone run of the game.  Dalton Burrell (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) kept the Gents in check, going a season long four innings to earn his third win of the season.  Burrell scattered two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

After the Gents would score, the Bengals would go on to plate ten unanswered runs.  Reed Eason would induce a bases loaded walk to plate Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS), followed by a Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) fielder's choice to make it 5-1.

Cooper would get the offense rolling in the fifth, stroking a two-run double down the first base line to score Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) and Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS).  Grant Mangrum would follow suit two innings later with a two-run single.

After Aiden Vosburg (Jarreau, LA, Catholic-Pointe Coupee HS) put LSUE over double digit runs in the seventh with a fielder's choice, the Bengals would get three more runs on an error and two bases loaded walks.

Vosburg led LSUE at the plate with a three-hit game with Eason, LaRocca, Cooper and Mangrum driving in multiple RBIs.

The Bengals were also rolling on the mound, striking out 12 Centenary batters.  LSUE saw five relief pitchers seeing action with Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) leading that charge in a two inning, three strikeout performance.

LSUE will be back in action this weekend for a home series against Panola College starting Saturday with a 3:00PM doubleheader.
