EUNICE, La. – After four scoreless innings at Bengal Stadium, LSU Eunice baseball came alive in a big way as the Bengals would run-rule Murray State 12-1 on Friday to start their three-game series. It was the Bengals' (17-3) seventh mercy rule victory of the season.
LSUE starter
Miles Clack (Katy, TX, Seven Lake HS) was in an old-fashioned pitching dual with Murray State starter Mason Creacy the first half of the game. LSUE and Murray State combined for only two hits in four scoreless innings to start. The Bengals would use an error in the fifth to score the first run of the game as
Christian Gonzalez (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) would single home
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS).
The flood gates would open an inning later. LSUE would push across seven runs in the sixth inning as the Bengals piled up seven hits.
Grant Mangrum (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) and
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) provided the big hits, both driving in a pair of runs on base hits.
After Murray State scored its only run of the game off a solo home run on reliever
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS), the Bengals would put an early end to the game with four more runs in the seventh. Christian Gonzalez and Mangrum would connect on back-to-back two RBI base hits for LSUE to walk-off with the win.
Gonzalez and Mangrum led the LSUE effort with four RBI games. LSUE saw five different players record multi-hit games as the Bengals piled up 12 hits.
Clack would finish with his best performance to date in just his second start. The left hander would go six scoreless innings, scattering two hits and a walk. Clack would strike out eight batters on the night.
LSUE continues its weekend series with Murray State on Saturday with a 2:00PM first pitch.
