EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball closed out the regular season in style with a pair of runaway victories over LSU Alexandria in a Monday doubleheader at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals will head into the postseason with a record of 38-15.
The Bengals jumped out early offensively to take a 10-0 opener in five innings, followed by a 22-4 romp of the Generals. Both games were shortened mercy rule games of five innings.
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) led the Bengals' offensive charge, having a hand in nine of the team's runs.
LSUE will next head to Pearl River Community College for the Region 23 Baseball Tournament from May 16-20 at Dub Herring Park. The Bengals will be the No. 3 seed in the six-team tournament. Opponents, game times and schedule will be announced at a later date.
Game 1 vs. LSU Alexandria – W, 10-0
An early offensive spurt was coupled with a complete game effort on the mound to help lead LSU Eunice to a 10-0 victory over LSU Alexandria to start the two teams' doubleheader.
Three straight two-out hits helped the Bengals strike for four runs in the first inning. After
Cole Romero (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS)o brought in the first run of the game with a sacrifice bunt, the trio of
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS),
Christian Gonzalez (Breaux Bridge, LA, Breaux Bridge HS) and
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) would connect on RBI base hits.
Romero would keep the offense rolling an inning later, making it 6-0 LSUE with a two RBI single.
Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) would do his part on the mound, throwing all five innings. McGibboney struck out eight batters with a walk, while scattering three hits.
LSUE would manufacture a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure the run-rule.
Game 2 vs. LSU Alexandria – W, 22-4
LSU Eunice would scratch a pair of big innings early on its way to a 22-4 romp of LSU Alexandria to close out their doubleheader.
Despite the lobsided scoreboard, it was the Generals that would get on the board first with a two-run home run. LSUE would respond with authority, plating seven runs in the first inning followed by a nine-spot an inning later.
Darian Richard (Rayne, LA, Rayne HS) provided a three-run home run in the third to make it a 16-4 game, followed by a
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) sacrifice fly,
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) RBI single and a wild pitch to give the Bengals their final 22-run tally.
Kole Myers led the LSUE attack with a 2-for-2 game, driving in four RBIs and scoring twice. Three of his RBIs came on a bases loaded triple to end the first inning scoring.
LSUE would use four pitchers in the five-inning game as
Drew Lasseigne (Greenwell Springs, LA, Central HS) would pick up the win. Lasseigne tossed the final inning of the game, sitting down LSUA in order with a strikeout.
