EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball took control early and never let go, capturing a 13-0 mercy rule win over Kellogg CC on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. It was the Bengals' (13-0) fifth shutout and eighth run-rule victory already this season.
The Bengals struck for nine runs in the first inning, using only three hits but capitalizing on four free passes and an error.
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) and
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) produced the only base hit RBIs of the frame as Saunier would have a hand in three of the runs in the frame.
That was more than enough for
Connor Benge (Montgomery, TX, Montgomery HS) who picked up his third win of the season. Benge pitched four scoreless innings, scattering three hits and four walks while striking out six batters.
Brandon Brewer (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS),
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) and
Taegan Bourque (New Iberia, LA, New Iberia Senior HS) all threw an inning of relief.
LSUE would empty the bench in the fourth inning with
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) and
Reuben Williams (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) producing RBI singles in the fifth to stretch the Bengals' lead to 13-0.
Seven different players recorded a hit in LSUE's 8-hit output, led by
Bennett Clement's (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) 2-for-2 day.
