EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball wrapped up an impressive weekend as the Bengals secured a four-game series sweep of National Park College on Sunday. The Bengals (7-0) produced a pair of run-rule victories, totaling their fourth shortened games of the early season.
LSUE enjoyed another jaw dropping pitching performance in the opener, using 14 strikeouts by Bengal pitching in a 10-0 win in six innings. The offense would come alive in the series capper, producing a 15-1 victory in seven innings.
The Bengals continue their season opening home stand this upcoming weekend with another four-game series, hosting Monroe College. The action from Bengal Stadium starts Friday at 6:00PM. All games will be streamed on the LSUE Digital Network presented by Opelousas General Health.
Game 1 vs. National Park College – W, 10-0
LSU Eunice received another sterling effort on the mound as the Bengals blew past National Park 10-0 in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) put on a jaw dropping display, striking out nine batters in just four innings of action. The freshman struck out the first five batters he faced, surrendering just an error and a single. Not be outdone, the duo of
Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) and
Hunter Ponson (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) would combine for five punchouts in the final two innings, each giving up a hit.
LSUE would use a pair of big base hits from the meat of the lineup to just ahead.
Nick Duplechain (Lafayette, LA, Iota HS) made it 3-0 LSUE in the third inning with a two-run single, followed by
Zachary Thomas (Jesup, GA, Wayne County HS) clearing the bases with a three RBI double an inning later.
Walker Bridges (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) joined Duplechain with multi-hit games in the Bengals' five-hit output. Bridges drove in a pair of runs and scored.
Game 2 vs. National Park College – W, 15-1
A 15-hit explosion by the LSU Eunice offense highlighted the series finale as the Bengals cruised to a 15-1 win in run-rule fashion.
The Bengals saw 11 different players record hits, led by
Alexander Saunier's (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) 3-hit afternoon. Saunier started the scoring, executing a bunt that would bring home
Brad Griffin (Sydney, Australia, Endeavour Sports HS) on an error. The sophomore captain would follow that up with a RBI triple in the second inning and a RBI single in the fourth. He would also score three times.
LSUE would get innings of six and five runs early, using six hits for six runs in the second and three hits for five runs in the third.
Joining Saunier with multi-hit games were
Korey Cooper (Dickinson, TX, Dickinson HS) and
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS). Joubert and
Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS) also scored three times in the rout. Zachary Thomas,
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) and
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) would tally multi-RBI games.
LSUE would see five different arms in the win.
Blake Lobell (Holden, LA, Springfield HS) picked up the win after tossing three perfect innings to go with three strikeouts.
Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS),
Taegan Bourque (New Iberia, LA, New Iberia Senior HS),
Jacob Moore (Lacombe, LA, Lakeshore HS) and
Brandon Brewer (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) all saw an innings worth of relief action.
