JACKSON, Ms. – LSU Eunice Baseball enjoyed an offensive exhibition with a pair of five inning mercy rule wins over Millsaps College JV on Thursday at Twenty Field. The Bengals (28-0) burst for 32 runs on 26 hits in just ten innings of action.
The Bengals used a 12-run fourth inning to spark a 21-2 decision over the Majors in the first game, followed by an 11-1 result.
LSU Eunice continues its season-long 10-game road trip on Friday with a doubleheader at Hinds Community College.
Game 1 vs. Millsaps College JV – W, 21-2
LSU Eunice turned a low scoring game into a rout in a hurry as the Bengals raced past Millsaps College JV 21-2 in a five-inning mercy rule win. It was the second time this season that LSUE scored more than 20 runs in a single game.
The Bengals and Majors were tied 2-2 in the fourth inning before LSUE erupted for 12 runs in the frame. LSUE collected nine of its 16 hits in the inning alone as
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) would produce six of the 12 runs. After LSUE would score its first run of the inning on a fielder's choice, Saunier laced a two-run double to make it 5-2 LSUE. The co-captain would cap off the frame with a three-run home run to push the Bengals ahead 14-2. It was one of two home runs in the inning as
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) lifted his fourth of the season.
Saunier set a career mark with six RBIs in the game to go along with three runs scored in his 3-for-5 performance. He was joined by
Zachary Thomas (Jesup, GA, Wayne County HS) with a three-hit game.
The Bengals would follow up the 12 spot with a seven run fifth inning.
Reuben Williams (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) put an exclamation point to the offensive surge with a two-run single.
Brandon Brewer (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) secured his first win of the season, tossing four innings. Brewer scattered two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out a career-high seven batters.
Hunter Ponson (Baton Rouge, LA, Parkview Baptist HS) followed with a one-hit fifth inning, sitting down a pair.
Game 2 vs. Millsaps College JV – W, 11-1
The Bengals continued their offensive showcase in the nightcap against Millsaps, scoring in four of their five innings during an 11-1 win.
The Bengals struck for four runs in the second inning, headlined by a Reuben Williams producing a two-run single. LSUE quickly loaded the bases and used a hit by pitch and
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) sacrifice fly to score its first two runs of the game.
Barham White (Monroe, LA, Ouachita Christian HS) energized the Bengals' dugout an inning later with a three-run home run, his first as a Bengal to make it a 7-0 game.
After Millsaps scored its lone run of the game, the Bengals would again load the bases and use two walks to induce the mercy rule.
Nick Duplechain (Lafayette, LA, Iota HS) paced the Bengals with a 3-for-3 game, driving in a run and scoring twice. White collected four RBIs and scored three times during his 2-for-2 performance.
Alex Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS) rounded out the Bengals with a multi-hit game.
Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) grabbed the win, his first of his LSUE career, after going four innings in the start. Gisclair gave up one earned run off three hits and a walk and added seven strikeouts.
Patrick Vienne (Natchitoches, LA, St. Mary's HS) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the fifth inning.
