EL DORADO, Ark. –
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) turned in his best performance to date as LSU Eunice rode the freshman's hot bat to a 13-3 run-rule victory over South Arkansas CC on the road on Tuesday. The freshman helped LSUE improve to 49-3, the second most wins in a regular season in school history.
The Bengals now turn their attention to serve as host for the Region 23 Tournament on May 15-19.
Willis would get the offense going in the third inning with a solo home run. South Arkansas would have an answer, plating two runs in the bottom half of the inning and a run in the fourth to give the Stars a 3-1 advantage.
It'd stay that way until the Bengals exploded for an eight-run sixth inning. Willis again was the lynchpin for LSUE, blasting his second grand slam of the season.
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) added a RBI single, followed by a
Tanner Vadnais (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) bases loaded walk.
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) concluded the big frame with a two-run single to give LSUE a 9-3 lead.
Alexander Saunier (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette HS) would keep the Bengals' offensive surge going an inning later with a two-run home run, followed by a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Parker Coley (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) capped off the scoring and induced the run-rule with an RBI double.
Willis paced the Bengals with a four-hit game, driving in five RBIs and scoring four times. In addition to his two home runs, Willis would knock a pair of doubles. Coley and Husser were the other Bengals to notch multi-hit games in LSUE's 12-hit output.
The offensive showcased was balanced by another terrific outing by
Aiden Vosburg (Jarreau, LA, Catholic-Pointe Coupee HS). The sophomore improved to 7-0 with a seven-inning outing, scattering three runs off five hits and one walk. Vosburg would add four strikeouts to his stat line.
Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS) pitched a perfect eighth to secure the mercy rule win for LSU Eunice.
