Bengals Handle Blinn in Gulf South Quarterfinals

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer continued its strong late season form with a 2-0 win over Blinn College in the Gulf South District Quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Bengal Soccer Complex.  The Bengals (10-5-1) advance in postseason play and will head to Coastal Bend College on Tuesday for the semifinal round.

The victory helped secure a double-digit win season for LSUE, the school's third straight and the program's fifth in its seven-year history.

The Bengals roared out to a fast start, scoring in the 16th minute.  William Saar (Monrovia, Liberia, Armstrong HS (Minn.)) would come off the bench and provide instant offense, corralling a bouncing ball off a throw in and smashing a left footed laser just outside the box that would tuck inside of the near side upper corner.

LSUE would stay on the front foot for the majority of the half, creating a few more offensive opportunities.  Saar would play in Julian Pasqualino (Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Father John Redmond HS), who's flick would sail just wide of the net to keep the score 1-0 at intermission.

It wasn't until the final moments that the Bengals would finally score a valuable insurance goal.  In the 84th minute, the Bengals would charge ahead off a turnover on their own end as Benjamin Alimasi (Houston, TX, Paetow HS) motored into Buccaneer territory, leaving off for Arnold Cruz (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) near the top corner of penalty box.   The freshman cut inside before rifling a sharp lefty laser that tucked in past the keeper to the near side.

Both Saar and Cruz's tallies gave them five goals on the year, tied for second on the team.

The Bengal offense was efficient, scoring two goals on just three shots on frame.  LSUE held a potent Buccaneers offense at bay, shutting out the seventh highest scoring attack in the NJCAA.  It was just the third time this season Blinn was shut out.

Blinn would outshoot LSUE 11-5 while Landon Sorrell (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) collected four saves in the Bengals' sixth clean sheet of the season.
