BEEVILLE, Texas – LSU Eunice Men's Soccer fought to the finish but would come up short at Coastal Bend in a 1-0 setback in the Gulf South District Semifinals on Tuesday. The Bengals wrapped up their first season under the direction of John Plumbar with a 10-6-1 record.
The Bengals reached at least the district semifinals in each of the program's seven years of existence.
LSUE and Coastal Bend would go back and forth throughout the afternoon match with both defenses tightening the screws. It was one miscue right before half that would seal the Bengals' fate. Off a turnover on the Cougars' end, a long pass would provide a one-on-one opportunity for Coastal Bend. Goalkeeper
Landon Sorrell (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) would charge towards the ball, colliding with his defender and give the Cougars an empty net goal with one minute before halftime.
The Bengals would launch a more aggressive offensive attack in the second half, putting seven shots on frame but could not connect on the equalizer.
Sorrell snagged five saves in the losing effort.
LSUE's ten wins marks the fifth time the Bengals have eclipsed the double-digit win plateau.
