Bengals Drop Pair at SW Mississippi Coca-Cola Classic

SUMMIT, Ms. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball suffered a pair of setbacks at the Southwest Mississippi Coca-Cola Classic.  The Bengals (4-4) closed out a season-long five game road swing with the pair of games in the Magnolia State.
 
LSU Eunice suffered a tough luck 71-69 defeat at the hands of Copiah-Lincoln, followed by a 73-52 decision to Southwest Mississippi CC.
 
The Bengals return home on Monday, November 25 with a 6:00PM game against Centenary College.
 
Nov. 18 vs. Copiah-Lincoln CC – L, 69-71
LSU Eunice could not find an offensive answer in the closing moments as the Bengals dropped a heartbreaking 71-69 setback to Copiah-Lincoln CC.  A close contest throughout, the game featured 14 lead changes and 12 ties.
 
The Bengals seemed to have taken control of the game in the third quarter, building as large as an eight-point advantage.  Trinity Thomas (Walker, LA, Walker HS) and Ja'miya Vann (Walker, LA, Walker HS) led the LSUE charge in the quarter, each scoring six points.  LSUE would hold the lead until the midway point through the fourth quarter, when the seesaw match ensued.
 
LSUE found itself in a six-point hole with two minutes remaining before using a  quick 7-0 run to take its final lead of the game, 69-68, with 50 seconds remaining.  Three free throws in the final minute by the Wolfpack would give Copiah-Lincoln the lead for good.  A final drive by LSUE was denied trying to send the game into overtime.
 
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS) paced the LSUE attack with 15 points while adding four steals.  Thomas, Vann, and Mariah Heard (Bastrop, LA, Bastrop HS) also scored double digit points.
 
Markiyah Jefferson (Baton Rouge, LA, Liberty HS) stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, four assists, and five steals.
 
The defense forced 22 turnovers during the afternoon, turning them into 23 points.
 
Nov. 19 vs. Southwest Mississippi CC
The Bengals would come out scorching hot but could not keep the offense rolling as LSU Eunice fell 73-52 to Southwest Mississippi.
 
LSUE would take an early 11-6 lead in the first quarter, scoring 23 points in the frame.  Kamiera McDonald led that charge, making four three-point baskets, part of her team-high 20-point evening.
 
LSUE was held to 18 points total in the second and third quarters as the Bears would push ahead for good.
 
Nine different players would score for LSU Eunice in the game.
