Fast Start Propels Bengals In Kellogg Opener

EUNICE, La.  LSU Eunice scored six runs in the first two innings and never looked back, taking a 7-1 victory over Kellogg CC on Friday at Bengal Stadium.  The Bengals (11-0) won the first of the three-game series pitting two NJCAA ranked clubs.

An early error helped spur a five-run frame for LSUE.  After Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) singled to begin the bottom of the first, Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) reached safely on an error that would put two Bengals in scoring position.  Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) brought in the first run of the game on a sacrifice grounder, followed by Tyler Johnson's (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) bunt single to plate another.

Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) connected on a RBI single before Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) provided a two out two-run double to make it 5-0 LSUE.  The Bengals collected five of their nine hits in the first inning alone.

Willis manufactured a run in the second as he led off the inning with a double then would steal third and home at the same time on a passed ball.  He would later drive in the final run of the night for LSUE, working a bases loaded walk in the fifth.  Willis, Johnson and Joubert each had multi-hit games for the Bengals.

Blake Lobell (Holden, LA, Springfield HS) continued his early season dominance, grabbing his third win of the season.  The sophomore co-captain gave up one hit over five innings, striking out six while walking a pair.  Lobell sat down the first six batters he faced and put the Bruins down in order three separate times.

The trio of Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS), Samuel Marsh (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) and Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) finished out the game for the LSUE pitching staff as the Bengals combined for 14 strikeouts.

LSU Eunice continues its series with Kellogg on Saturday with a 1:00PM matinee from Bengal Stadium.
