EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a pair of big innings to roll 20-4 over Kellogg CC on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (12-0) secured the seventh run-rule win of the early season.
The output also marks 12 straight seasons LSU Eunice has a game of 20 runs or more. In the last decade alone, the Bengals have eclipsed 20 or more runs 19 times since the 2015 campaign.
The Bengals used another big first inning to take control against the Bruins. LSUE plated six runs in the opening at bat highlighted by 2 RBI base hits from
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) and
Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS). Kellogg would punch back with three runs in the second, but it was as close as the Bruins would get.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) and
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) produced RBI knocks in the second to expand the LSUE lead to 8-3. The Bengals pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth and eight runs in the sixth. Eight different Bengals would tally an RBI in those final two at bats, led by
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) driving in a RBI in the fifth and sixth innings. Johnson continued his hot stretch with a 3-for-3 game to go along with those two RBIs and a run scored.
Johnson was joined by
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) and
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) with multi-hit games, part of LSUE's 17-hit outburst.
Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS) grabbed his first win of the season tossing three relief frames, scattering one earned run off two hits. He would strike out three batters as LSUE would total 11 punchouts on the day.
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) received a no decision after striking out five batters in two innings of work.
Sawyer Simmons (Bossier City, LA, Benton HS) and
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) strung together back-to-back innings of scoreless relief to end the game.
