EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a late offensive surge to secure another mercy rule win over Southern Arkansas University Tech 12-1 in seven innings on Sunday. The Bengals (17-0) outscored the Rockets 41-8 over the three run-rule victories.
The Rockets were able to jump out in front with a run in the opening inning and hold the lead until the third. That's when the Bengals pounced for four runs to grab the lead for good, using three free passes to load the bases. After a hit by pitch to score a run and two sacrifice flies it was
Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS) that would drive in a
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) with a double to put LSUE ahead 4-1.
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) added a sacrifice ground out an inning later to score
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS).
After giving up that run in the first inning,
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) would settle down to turn in arguably his most dominant performance with LSUE. The sophomore gave up three hits the rest of his outing, striking out a career-best 12 batters over six full innings while not issuing a walk.
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) shut down the Rockets with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out a pair of batters.
LSUE would induce the run-rule with a seven-run seventh inning, all with two outs.
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) led off the scoring with a RBI single followed by two runs via a wild pitch.
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) ended the game a few batters later as he lifted off a walk-off grand slam.
Joubert's five RBIs on the day were a career best for the sophomore. Fulk was the lone Bengal with a multi-hit game as LSUE produced eight hits.
LSU Eunice is back at home this weekend as the Bengals host Garrett College for a four-game series beginning Friday at 6:00PM.
