Big Inning Sparks No. 2 LSUE To Take Friday Win Over Garrett

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used an eight-run inning to erase an early deficit and blow past Garrett College 11-1 in seven innings on Friday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (18-0) collected its fourth straight mercy rule win and 11th already this season.

The Bengals found themselves in a 1-0 hole after an error and the Lakers' only base hit of the night put Garrett College on the corner with no outs.  A sacrifice fly would score the only run of the game for Garrett College, who made their first trip to the Cajun Prairie from Maryland.

That would wake up the LSUE bats in a big way as the Bengals would plate eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.  LSU Eunice tied the game off a Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) RBI single and a batter later Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) worked a walk to load the bases.  After Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) produced an RBI off a walk, Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) would unload on an elevated fastball for a monster grand slam.  It was Husser's first home run of the season.

LSUE pushed across two more runs as Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) stole home off a pick off attempt at first base and Weston Fulk brought home a run from another bases loaded walk.

Blake Lobell (Holden, LA, Springfield HS) and the rest of the LSUE pitching staff quieted Garrett College the rest of the way.  Lobell improved to 5-0 on the season after four innings of work, giving up one unearned run off one hit while striking out seven batters.  Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS), Samuel Marsh (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) and Joe Bordelon (Alexandria, LA, Alexandria Senior HS) each saw an inning of relief work.

The Bengals would be in position to score the mercy rule after scoring a run on a wild pitch and Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) connecting on a two-out two run single.

LeBlanc was the only Bengal to have a multi-hit game in LSUE's six-hit output.

The Bengals continue their series with the Lakers on Saturday as the two teams meet for an afternoon doubleheader starting at 1:00PM.
