NEW ORLEANS, La. – After navigating the most difficult non-conference schedule in the LCCAC, LSU Eunice Women's Basketball is reaping the benefits in league play as the Bengals defeated Delgado CC 73-62 on Saturday at the Williamson Center. LSU Eunice (3-19, 2-0 LCCAC) is the only team still unbeaten in LCCAC play after the first week of conference action.
A see-saw first half that saw seven ties and three lead changes,
Kinsley Batiste (Opelousas, LA, Northwest HS) nailed a pair of free throws with 6:18 left in the third quarter to give the Bengals the lead for good.
Kaylan Jack (Baton Rouge, LA, Madison Prep Academy) connected on a three-pointer with 4:48 in the quarter to cap a 7-0 mini-run and stretch the lead to 45-39.
Jack continued her hot start to LCCAC play, following a 31-point performance against Southern-Shreveport with a game-high 25 against the Dolphins. Jack was 5-for-12 from three-point distance to lead LSUE in that category.
Mary Leday (Opelousas, LA, Northwest HS) was 3-for-4 from long-range, adding five rebounds and five steals to her 11 points.
Tierra Sylvas (Pearl River, LA, Northshore HS) again stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Destiny Brown (Hattiesburg, MS, East Marion HS) was the other LSUE player in double figures, scoring 10 points. Despite being outrebounded 50-32, LSUE used its speed to turn the game on its head, forcing 24 turnovers. The Bengals turned that into 24 points.
LSUE continues LCCAC play on Wednesday with a home date against Baton Rouge CC to complete the first round of conference play. Game time from the HPRE Center is set for 5:30PM.
