EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball dropped its first game of the season, 5-3, to Southeastern Iowa CC on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (22-1) started the year with the fifth longest win streak in school history.
The Bengals could not jumpstart their offense, leaving 11 runners on base. LSUE left the bases loaded in the opening inning and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth.
LSUE would fall behind 3-0 as the Blackhawks scratched a few runs in the third and fourth innings.
Evan Joubert (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) tried to ignite the Bengals' attack with a solo home run in the sixth, only to be answered by two more SCC runs in the seventh.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) scored the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, scoring
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS). LeBlanc was joined by
Tanner Vadnais (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) and
Crawford Courville (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) with multi-hit games.
LSUE tried to mount a last-minute rally, putting two runners on base with one out. The Bengals would line out and ground out to squash the threat.
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) was tagged with the loss after going 3.2 innings giving up three runs, one earned, off two hits and two walks. The freshman would strike out six batters.
Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS),
Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS) and
Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) threw in relief.
