EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used timely hitting and another strong outing on the mound to help the Bengals take down Bossier Parish CC 5-0 on Wednesday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (23-1) were able to rebound from their first loss of the season by securing their fourth shutout of the season.
LSUE used an opportunistic offense early as the Bengals used a lead off walk to
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) and turned it into a run. Willis would steal second and score on a blooper to shallow right field off the bat of
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS). The Bengals added a second run an inning later as LSUE cashed in off a lead off triple by
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) as
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) drove him home on a sacrifice fly in the next at bat.
From there, the LSUE pitching staff took control, keeping a potent Cavalier offense at bay.
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) secured his seventh win of the season going 4.1 innings, leaving in the fifth inning after two base runners would get on.
Sawyer Simmons (Bossier City, LA, Benton HS) would get out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout, part of 13 runners left stranded by BPCC.
Schexnaydre totaled just two punchouts on the outing, giving up four hits and a walk. Simmons would give way to
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) and
Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy). Webb enjoyed a standout outing, getting four of his five outs by way of strikeout, also getting out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning.
The Bengal bats would pick up the production in the latter stages scoring runs in their final two at bats.
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) lasered a line drive to bring in Willis in the seventh who would then turn around a drive in a run with a bunt single. Willis helped plate the final run of the game, stalling on the base paths in a first-and-third situation to allow
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) to score from third base.
Willis had a direct hand in three of the team's runs, scoring twice.
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) and Clement produced multi-hit games, part of LSUE's eight hit output.
