EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball didn't let an early start to its series against North Iowa Area CC with a late first pitch deter the Bengals as the offense came fast and furious during a 17-2 win on Thursday night at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (24-1) moved up its series with the Trojans due to expected weather this weekend in the Acadiana region, starting the Thursday night tilt at 8:00PM local time.
The Bengals went right to work, setting down NIACC in order to start the game and then put their first six base runners on base.
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) provided the big hit in the frame, doubling home
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) before scoring on a
Carson Carey (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) sacrifice ground out. LSUE plated its other three runs in the inning off an error and two wild pitches.
LSU Eunice put the game to bed in the fourth, striking for ten more runs. The Bengals took advantage of eight free passes in the inning with Husser again providing a key hit, doubling home a pair of runs.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) and
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) were the other Bengals to produce a run by putting the ball in play.
The Bengals added their last run in the sixth, capitalizing off the final of three Trojan errors.
Husser, LeBlanc and Dupuy all had multi-hit games in LSUE's nine hit output. Husser and LeBlanc combined to have a hand in nine of the team's runs in scoring twice while Husser produced a three RBI game.
Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS) made a spot start with the Thursday game, his first of his LSUE career. The Canadian import tossed four innings, tying a career long, to earn his second win of the season. Watt scattered two runs, only one earned, off one hit and a walk while striking out four batters.
Samuel Marsh (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) finished the game with three shutout innings of relief, giving up three hits while sitting down three Trojan batters.
