No. 2 LSUE Squeezes Out Series Sweep of North Iowa Area CC

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice's pitching staff capped off a strong week on the mound with another valiant performances as the Bengals upended North Iowa Area CC 5-3 on Saturday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (26-1) won four games this week, two coming by way of shutout with a total of 45 strikeouts over that span.

Bengals starting pitcher Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) was put to the test early as the freshman loaded the bases in the first inning.  Beversdorf would limit the Trojans to a single run off one of the two LSUE errors in the inning.  The Texan allowed just three base runners the remainder of his four innings of work as he improved his record to 3-1.  Beversdorf struck out six batters while issuing just one walk.

LSUE saw all of its offense come in the opening inning.  The Bengals used four free passes and four wild pitches to score the majority of their runs.  Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) and Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) would produce RBI base hits in the inning.  The Bengals left the bases loaded an inning later and then were stymied by the Trojan pitching staff.

Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) collected two of the team's four hits on the day, scoring a run.

The Bengals bullpen would do the rest as Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS), Sawyer Simmons (Bossier City, LA, Benton HS), Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS) all saw time on the mound.  NIACC crept to within 5-3 in the final third of the game setting up two strong outings by Mabry and Barham.

Mabry allowed just one hit with two strikeouts while Barham grabbed his second save of the season, striking out three batters in the ninth to set off an excited Bengals dugout.

LSUE begins a five-game road trip on Saturday with a date with Southern Arkansas University Tech on the campus of Northwestern State University this Tuesday, March 19.  The 4:00PM first pitch will be at H. Alvin-C.C. Stroud Field.
