EUNICE, La. -LSU Eunice Baseball scored 13 runs in its final two at bats to help surge past Centenary College 19-4 in seven innings on Thursday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (38-2) won in a shortened mercy rule game for the 20th time this season.
The Bengals raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings, highlighted by
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) connecting on a two-run single. Willis built on his team-best mark with his 14th multi-hit game of season, grabbing three hits for the fourth time. The sophomore was responsible for six of the Bengals' runs with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Centenary would creep back to within 6-3 before the Bengals outscored the Gents 13-1 in the final two innings. LSUE would cross four runs in the fifth inning using a sacrifice fly, a balk and Willis's second two-RBI hit of the day.
The knockout blow would come in the sixth inning with the Bengals scoring nine runs on seven hits and two free passes.
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) started the scoring with a bang, launching a one-out solo home run. He would later triple home two more runs and score on a wild pitch.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) laid the other big punch with a two-run double.
Johnson, LeBlanc and Willis were joined by
Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) with multi hit games. The quartet were responsible for 12 combined RBIs.
Owen Schexnaydre (Houma, LA, Vandebilt Catholic HS) took his 10th win of the season, throwing three innings. The sophomore gave up one unearned run off two hits and a walk. He would strike out six of the 13 batters he faced.
Sawyer Simmons (Bossier City, LA, Benton HS),
Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS),
Samuel Marsh (Monroe, LA, Neville HS) and
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) finished the action on the mound.
