Lobell, Clement Guide LSUE To Series Opener at SEARK

EUNICE, La. – The sophomore duo of Blake Lobell (Holden, LA, Springfield HS) and Bennett Clement (St. Francisville, LA, West Feliciana HS) helped guide LSU Eunice Baseball to a 10-1 opener at Southeast Arkansas on Saturday.  The Bengals (39-2) scored double digit runs for the 25th time this season.

The Bengals used another strong performance by Blake Lobell on the mound as the sophomore improved to 11-0 on the season.  Lobell struck out 10 batters, marking his third straight game of double-digit punch outs.  The right hander gave up one earned run off five hits and three walks.

He sat down the side in order once, including a three-strikeout inning in the fifth.

LSUE would provide the offense starting in the third inning, striking for three runs.  Tyler Johnson's (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) RBI single was sandwiched by two sacrifices to give the Bengals the early edge.

Bennett Clement added a solo home run in the fourth, his first of the season.  Clement enjoyed a breakout night, finishing just a triple shy of the cycle.  The redshirt sophomore had just his second three-hit game of his LSUE career, driving in two runs and scoring twice.

The Bengals added two more runs in the sixth before a four-run ninth inning to put the game officially out of reach.  Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) started that final at bat with a solo home run, followed by a two-run double by Andrew Lee (Lafayette, LA, Ascension Episcopal HS) and Clement adding a RBI double.

Clement was the lone Bengal to have a multi-hit game while he was joined by LeBlanc, Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) and Lee with multiple RBIs.

Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and Nick Gisclair (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) tossed the final 1.2 innings to close out the victory for the Bengals.

LSU Eunice and SE Arkansas play a Sunday doubleheader from Pine Bluff, starting at 1:00PM.
