EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a three-run first inning to help drive a 6-4 win over Delgado CC on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (37-2) took a weekend sweep over the Dolphins for just the sixth time in the two teams' storied history now at 95 games all-time.
The Bengals took early control of the game after a three-run opening inning.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) doubled home
Dawson Willis (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) and later scored off a
Tyler Johnson (Kenner, LA, Brother Martin HS) sacrifice ground out.
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) helped
Weston Fulk (Ankeny, IA, Ankeny HS) score off a RBI single. The Bengals could have struck for more in the first inning, leaving the bases loaded.
The two teams would trade runs in the fifth inning with
Collin Husser (Ponchatoula, LA, Ponchatoula HS) helping LSUE push its lead back to three with a RBI single to score Johnson. The Bengals and Dolphins again traded blows in the seventh, both plating two runs. Husser and Fuselier were again the catalyst for LSUE, driving in the runs.
The duo joined LeBlanc with multi-hit games as that trio recorded eight of the team's 10 hits.
The Bengals weren't out of danger just yet as Delgado would score a run and leave the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Collier Barham (Baton Rouge, LA, University Lab HS) picked up his fourth save of the year, working around a hit and three walks.
Liam Watt (Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Nelson HS) threw a career-high 6.1 innings to notch his third win of the season. The Canadian import again dominated in just his four start of his LSUE career. Watt yielded three runs, two earned, off four hits and a walk while striking out four batters.
Will Mabry (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy),
Parker Morgan (Lake Charles, LA, St. Louis Catholic HS) and
Parker Webb (Fayetteville, TN, Lincoln County HS) pieced together 1.2 innings of shutout relief.
