CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball overcame a slow start to blow past National Park 11-3 on Friday at Miller Stadium to open its three-game series with the Nighthawks. The Bengals (4-0) scored 11 straight runs to produce the decisive victory.
The Bengals would fall behind early as National Park lifted a two-run home run in the opening inning. NPC collected two hits in the opening frame before LSUE pitching shut down its offense, allowing two hits in the final eight innings.
LSUE responded right away, scoring three runs – all with two outs.
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) started the two-out rally with a double to left center and would score on a RBI single by
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS).
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) gave the Bengals the lead for good two batters later with a two-run double, getting thrown out at third trying to stretch the base hit into a triple.
Legg continued his hot start to the season with a 3-for-3 night, driving in those two runs while scoring once. He was joined by Fuselier, Hastings and
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) with multi-hit games.
Luna added to the lead in the third with a two-run single before LSUE would put the game away with some late offense.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) knocked a RBI double and
Crawford Courville (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) drove in a run off a fielder's choice in the seventh to make it 7-2 LSUE. The Bengals posted a four-spot in the eighth inning thanks to a Fuselier RBI double and manufacturing four more runs off a fielder's choice, sacrifice ground out and Nighthawk error.
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) improved to 2-0 on the season after tossing five innings. The sophomore settled down after the rocky start to strikeout eight batters while scattering two hits and a walk.
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) hurled 2.2 innings of one-hit relief before leaving for
Peyton Beck (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) and
Eli Lamb (Franklin, TN, Centennial HS).
National Park would score one more run in the ninth inning before the Bengals were able to close out the contest.
LSUE continues its series with National Park on Saturday with a 2:00PM start time from Miller Stadium.
