CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice belted five home runs to cruise past SAU Tech 14-1 on Friday at Fezzo's Field in a seven inning run-rule. The Bengals' (14-1) five home runs are the most since a six home run performance against L.B. Wallace during the 2001 season.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) began the power surge with a bang, smashing a first inning grand slam to left center.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) and
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) followed with back-to-back long balls in the second inning, pushing the LSE lead to 6-0. After the duo helped manufacture two more runs in the third, the Rockets finally got on the scoreboard with a RBI single.
That SAU Tech run ignited a six-run sixth inning for LSU Eunice, highlighted by a
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) two-run homer and a two-run blast by Hastings, his second homer of the night. Dupuy finished the offensive onslaught with a two-run double to centerfield.
Hastings made his two hits count in a big way, accounting for six RBIs and three runs scored. Dupuy added a 3-for-4 game with 4 RBIs and a run scored. They were joined by
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) with multi-hit games as LSUE compiled 14 hits on the night.
That was more than enough for
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS), who turned in a seven-inning complete game. Beversdorf (4-0) worked around the one earned run, giving up five hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
