LSUE HANDLES SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER FOR SAU TECH SWEEP

CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball controlled its weekend series with SAU Tech from start to finish, completing a sweep with a pair of victories on Saturday at Fezzo's Field. The Bengals (16-1) outscored the Rockets 34-7 over the three games while lifting eight home runs.
LSUE scored a 12-2 victory over SAU Tech in six innings to open the day, followed by an 8-4 decision in the finale.
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) and
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) led the offensive production, each producing four-hit games during the day.
The Bengals return to action next weekend with a three-game series against Murray State College.
Game 1 vs. SAU Tech – W, 12-2 (Six Innings)
LSUE used a solid outing by
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) and another offensive showcase to take down SAU Tech 12-2 in six innings. The Bengals pounded 13 hits in the game, led by Ashton Fuselier's 4-for-4 performance.
The offense went right to work in the opening inning, striking for three runs off a Tyson LeBlanc sacrifice fly and
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) two-run home run. It was Hastings' third long ball of the weekend.
After SAU Tech responded with a two-run home run of its own in the third inning, LSUE answered with three more runs, including a RBI single by Fuselier. The Bengals added two more in the fifth off a
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) RBI single and a Rockets balk. LSUE ensured the run-rule with four more runs in the sixth, three coming off bases loaded free passes and another from Fuselier on his second RBI single of the day.
Fuselier was joined by Hastings with multi-hit games while nine different players recorded a hit.
Xavier Woods did the rest, shaking off the early home run for a five-inning performance. Woods (3-0) worked around three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters. Dupuy would finish the game with his first pitching appearance of the year, striking out a batter in an inning of action.
Game 2 vs. SAU Tech – W, 8-4
The Bengals used a pair of early home runs to pave the way for an 8-4 win over SAU Tech to conclude the weekend series with the Rockets.
LSUE jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings with solo home runs by Tyson LeBlanc and
Cash Riley, III (Dallas, TX, Jesuit HS) sparking the early assault. LeBlanc enjoyed a 4-for-5 game, driving in a run and scoring three times.
SAU Tech clawed back to make it 5-4 in the 8th before
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) delivered a back breaking three-run double to push LSUE ahead 8-4.
Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) picked up the win after tossing five innings. The sophomore gave up four hits and one walk, yielding two runs with one of them earned. Tarango punched out five batters as LSUE total 10 strikeouts in the contest.
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) grabbed his second save of the season, scattering two hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) also saw time on the mound.
