EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball again showed its knack for dramatics as the Bengals overcame a late deficit to score a 7-4 win over Murray State on Friday at Bengal Stadium. While still under construction, it was the first official game in the renovated stadium with artificial turf and reversed orientation.
The Bengals (17-1) scored first in the contest, using an
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) RBI single to bring home
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS). The Aggies built a 4-1 lead in the sixth inning before LSUE would roar back with six unanswered.
Legg began the rally, doubling home
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Just one batter later,
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) sent the LSUE dugout into celebration with a game tying two-run home run to left field.
With a brand-new ballgame,
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) would silence the Murray State offense. The freshman southpaw entered in the seventh inning, pitching 1.2 innings of shutout relief and giving up one hit while striking out two batters.
LSUE would regain the lead in the seventh, using the lone error of the game to help bring home
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) on a first-and-third situation. Dupuy would add two more valuable insurance runs an inning later, striking out a two-out two-run single up the middle to score
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) and Luna.
Legg was the lone Bnegal to record a multi-hit game, part of a seven hit LSUE evening.
That all set the stage for
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) who picked up his third save of the season. Ashworth walked the first batter he faced before striking out three straight Aggie batters.
LSUE and Murray State continue their weekend series on Saturday with a 2:00PM contest from Bengal Stadium.
