Late Offense Carries LSUE To Monroe Opener

CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a five-run fifth inning to push past Monroe University 14-4 in an eight inning mercy-rule win on Friday at Miller Stadium.  The Bengals (7-0) jumped out with 11 straight runs before a grand slam squashed the shutout attempt.

It was a pitching duel early as LSUE clung to a 3-0 lead through four innings.  Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) put the Bengals on the board in the first inning with a RBI single, followed by a wild pitch that helped LSUE score another to give LSUE a 2-0 cushion. Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) smashed a solo home run in the fourth in what was a tight game early.

Monroe threatened throughout the game, leaving the bases loaded in the first inning and two men aboard in the fourth.  Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) would get out of each jam, logging his third win of the early season after tossing five innings.  The sophomore gave up three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.

The Bengals finally broke the game open in the fifth inning.   After an error on a Jordan Luna fly ball helped Tyson LeBlanc score, Jaxon Landreneau (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) provided the big hit with a bases clearing three-run double.  A bases loaded walk to end the inning pushed LSUE ahead 8-0.

LSUE saw its lead grow to 11-0 after manufacturing runs off a wild pitch, a bases loaded walk, and Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) RBI single.  Following Monroe's seventh inning grand slam, LSUE would finally induce the mercy rule after crossing runs on a balk, a sacrifice fly and Obradovich's second RBI of the game on a single to center field.

Obradovich was joined by LeBlanc and Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) with multi-hit games to lead LSUE's 12-hit night.  McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS), Clark Sampson (San Angelo, TX, San Angelo Central HS) and Peyton Beck (Ruston, LA, Ruston HS) each pitched an inning of relief for LSUE.

The Bengals continue their series with Monroe University with a Saturday doubleheader at Miller Stadium starting at 1:00PM.
