CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball continued its hot streak at the plate with a pair of run-rule wins over Monroe University on Saturday at Miller Stadium. The victories marked the fourth straight mercy run decisions for the Bengals (9-0).
The Bengals used a pair of five-run innings to score a 13-0 win in five innings over the Mustangs to start the day, followed by a 12-2 nightcap in eight innings.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) led the Bengals for the day, collected four hits, two RBIs and three runs scored in the doubleheader.
LSU Eunice concludes its series with Monroe University on Sunday with an 11:00AM first pitch from Miller Stadium in Crowley.
Game 1 vs. Monroe University – W, 13-0 (5 Innings)
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead and never cooled down, scoring a 13-0 win over Monroe University in a five-inning mercy rule win.
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) jump started the LSUE attack with a three RBI double to right center. Two batters later, Aidan Mouton singled home a run with another scoring on one of three Monroe errors in the game.
Mabry was back to work in the third, sacrificing home a run to push the advantage to 6-0. LSUE manufactured four more runs in the inning, coming off a bases loaded hit by pitch, a two-run fielder's choice, and a bases loaded walk.
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) scored on a fourth inning wild pitch before
Jaxon Landreneau (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) brought home a run after grounding out into a double play.
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) capped the scoring in the fourth with a RBI double to score
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS).
LSUE needed just six hits to score its runs, taking advantage of the three errors and 15 free passes.
That was more than enough for
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS), making his first collegiate start. The southpaw went the distance, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out four batters.
Game 2 vs. Monroe University – W, 12-2 (8 Innings)
It was another fast start for LSU Eunice, scoring three runs in the first inning on the Bengals' way towards a 12-2 win over Monroe in eight innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.
The Bengals saw their first three hitters reach base safely in the first with Aidan Mouton connecting on a single to center field to bring home
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) to put LSUE on the board first. A balk helped the Bengals score a second run, followed by a sacrifice fly by
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS).
After another balk in the second inning extended LSUE's lead to 4-0, the two sides traded runs in the middle innings including a pair of solo home runs in the sixth, LSUE's coming off the bat of
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS).
The offense would keep rolling on, plating two runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-2. An error helped LSUE plate one run followed by Will Mabry driving a single to centerfield that scored
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS).
LSUE would put the run-rule into play with four more runs in the eighth starting with an executed first-and-third situation that brought home LeBlanc. After back-to-back bases loaded walks, Alex Dupuy ended the game with an RBI single to right field.
Mouton enjoyed a 3-for-5 game, one of three Bengals to have multi-hit games.
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) picked up the win after throwing 3.1 innings of relief. The sophomore gave up one earned run while striking out six batters.
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) and
Haydan Toal (Pineville, LA, Tioga HS) also so action on the mound.
