CROWLEY, La. – Over the years, LSU Eunice Baseball has shown a flair for the dramatic in late game situations and Sunday was another chapter in the Bengals' storied history. LSUE erased a three-run deficit in the eighth inning and would take down Monroe University in walk-off fashion with a 6-4 win in ten innings on Sunday at Miller Stadium.
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) barreled up a 2-2 fast ball, launching a towering two-run home to left field to set off a celebration at home plate.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) started the tenth inning with a lead off walk, while pinch runner
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) advanced to third on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt.
The home run was just the fourth hit of the day for the Bengals, being outhit 14-4 by Monroe.
The dramatic rally began in the eighth inning where LSUE scored three runs in knot the game up 4-4.
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) led off the inning with a single to left field before the Bengals loaded the bases off a walk and hit by pitch.
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) sacrificed home a run and scored another run on a balk.
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) provided a critical two-out single up the middle to score
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) to help LSUE claw all the way back.
Dupuy collected two of the team's four hits while scoring twice.
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) silenced Monroe for the final three innings of action, working around five hits and a walk while registering two strikeouts.
LSUE was first to strike in the game with Luna bringing in a run on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the first inning. Monroe methodically scored fourth consecutive runs with a second inning home run and manufactured a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Bengals are back in action next weekend with a three-team round robin against Kellogg CC and Tyler JC.
