STERLINGTON, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball handled a mid-week matchup with Southern Arkansas University Tech 9-4 in Sterlington on Tuesday. The 2nd-ranked Bengals (27-1) swept the season series with the Rockets, winning a three-game series in Crowley earlier in the season.
The Bengals raced out to a four-run lead, capitalizing off five walks in the second inning. After two bases loaded walks, a fielder's choice and first-and-third run down helped LSUE push ahead. LSUE would build as large as a 9-0 lead, Jaxon Landreneau's RBI double being a highlight during that offensive stretch in the middle innings.
Tyson LeBlanc and Aidan Mouton had multi-hit games with LSUE amassing six hits while taking advantage of 13 free passes. Caleb Hastings scored three times to lead the Bengals in that department.
Will Mabry did his part on the mound, improving to 5-0 on the season. Mabry pitched 6.1 scoreless frames, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight batters.
SAU Tech would strike for four runs in the eighth to end the possibility of a run rule before Alex Dupuy slammed the door close. Dupuy worked around a hit and two walks in 1.1 innings of relief.
LSUE returns home this weekend for the start of conference play against Baton Rouge CC. The Bengals join the Louisiana Community Colleges Athletic Conference (LCCAC) this season with the move up to Division I, joining BRCC, Delgado CC, and Nunez CC. LSUE will play home-and-home three-game series with each opponent, totaling 18 conference matchups.
