No. 2 Bengals Take Saturday Sweep To Open Conference

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball took care of business to open up LCCAC play, sweeping Baton Rouge CC in a Saturday doubleheader at Bengal Stadium.  It was the first conference games in program history for the Bengals (29-1), who moved up to Division I this season.

LSU Eunice roared out the gate to begin the day, taking a 12-0 five-inning run-rule over the Bears.  The Bengals rallied from an early hole in the finale, pushing past Baton Rouge with an 11-6 win.  Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) carried the hot bat in the LCCAC openers, collecting five hits in the two games with four RBIs and three runs scored.

The Bengals and Bears close out LCCAC opening weekend with a 1:00PM contest from Bengal Stadium on Sunday.

Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 12-0 (Five Innings)
LSUE used a blazing hot start to cruise to a 12-0 win over Baton Rouge CC in five innings to start the Saturday doubleheader against the Bears.  The Bengals struck for seven runs in the opening inning, scoring all their runs in the first three frames.

The Bengals big inning came from a Tyson LeBlanc RBI single and a trio of two-run base hits.  Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) doubled down the line to push the game to 3-0 before a Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) double and Cash Riley, III (Dallas, TX, Jesuit HS) home run gave LSUE the comfortable lead.  The Bengals collected six of their 11 hits in that first inning.

After manufacturing two runs in the second inning on a bases loaded hit by pitch and sacrifice fly, LeBlanc secured the mercy rule with a towering three-run home run to straight away center field.  It capped a solid game for the sophomore captain, going 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored.

LeBlanc was joined by Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) with a three-hit game while Mabry was the other Bengal to collect a multi-hit game.

The offensive firepower was no outdone by another sterling effort by Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS).  The LSUE ace improved to 7-0 with the complete game shutout.  Beversdorf scattered two hits and did not issue a free pass, striking out eight batters.

Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 11-6
The Bengals would overcome an early hole to take an 11-6 decision and secure the Saturday sweep of Baton Rouge CC.  LSUE fell into a five-run hole after BRCC started out the gates hot before the Bengals bullpen would cool them off.

The Bears collected five hits in the opening inning, leaving the bases loaded with a 5-0 lead.  LSUE answered right back, scoring five of its own in the opening inning.  After Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) began the scoring with a sacrifice grounder to bring home Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS), an Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) hit by pitch brought in another run and left the bases loaded.  That set the stage for a game tying three-run double by Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS).

LSUE and BRCC would swap runs again in the second inning before the Bengals pushed ahead for good in the third inning.  Cash Riley lifted a mammoth three-run home run to right field, his second long ball of the game and give LSUE its first lead of the game, 9-6.

The Bengals would get two insurance runs in the fifth as Luna and Mouton produced RBIs.

LeBlanc and Luna were the lone Bengals to have multi-hit games as LSUE totaled seven hits in the contest.

Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) put the Bears' offense on ice, picking up his fourth win of the season.  The freshman southpaw pitched 5.0 innings of scoreless relief, working around three hits and a walk.  Woods would strike out four batters in the outing.
