Offense Starts Fast, Finishes Strong To Secure BRCC Sweep

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball enjoyed a quick offensive start and a late run explosion to carry the second-ranked Bengals to a 13-3 eight inning run-rule win over Baton Rouge CC on Sunday at Bengal Stadium.  LSU Eunice (30-1) swept its first weekend of conference play in the LCCAC with the win – all coming by way of the mercy rule.

LSUE jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after two innings, using four runs in the opening frame.  Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) connected on RBI doubles, followed by a two-out, two-run single by Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) to push out to a 4-0 lead.  Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) singled home Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) an inning later.

Baton Rouge scratched runs in the third and fourth innings to claw to within three, making it 5-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth.  The Bengals would outscore BRCC 8-1 from that point.

Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) drove in Legg with a single in the fourth and would score on a passed ball in the sixth to make it 7-2 LSUE.  After a Bears' home run in the seventh, the Bengals posted another four-run inning, headlined by LeBlanc smashed a three-run home run to left center.

Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) launched a solo home run an inning later before Cash Riley, III (Dallas, TX, Jesuit HS) induced the mercy rule with a RBI single to right, scoring Dylan Bell.

The Bengals posted 16 hits in the game, led by two-hit outings from Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS), LeBlanc, Obradovich, Cooley and Riley.

Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) threw a season-high six innings in the victory.  Tarango gave up two unearned runs off four hits and three walks.  The 6-foot-6 righty tied his season high with eight strikeouts, sitting down the Bears in order four times during the game.  His defense helped by turning a pair of double plays.

Haydan Toal (Pineville, LA, Tioga HS), Alex Morrison (Pineville, LA, Tioga HS), and Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) combined for two innings of relief work, giving up one run off one hit and a walk.

LSUE steps outside of conference play on Tuesday to host South Arkansas at 4:00PM.  The Bengals will travel to the New Orleans area next weekend for a LCCAC series at Nunez CC.
