EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a dominant effort on the mound to carry the No. 2 Bengals to a 2-1 win over South Arkansas College on Tuesday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (31-1) received a sterling effort on the mound from
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy), producing his best outing to date of his Bengal career.
Mabry, making his third straight mid-week start on the mound, struck out 12 batters in his 5.1 inning outing – a single-game high for LSUE pitchers this season. The sophomore sat down the side in order once while navigating traffic throughout. His lone hiccup was a sixth inning home run that would end his afternoon.
He would hand the baton to
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS), who picked up right where Mabry left off by fanning five of the ten batters he faced. Jacobs tossed three innings in relief while not issuing a walk and giving up just one hit.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) pitched the final two outs of the game to pick up his first save of the season.
Mabry and Jacobs combined for 17 strikeouts, just one off the team season-high of 18 punch outs set opening weekend against Arkansas State University-Mountain Home. It's the 13th time this season the LSUE pitching staff has produced 10-plus strikeouts.
LSUE would strike first on the offensive end in the opening inning. The Bengals used a two-out triple by
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) to manufacture what would be a valuable run off a wild pitch. LeBlanc collected two of the team's five hits in the game.
In addition to grabbing the save on the mound, Aidan Mouton produced the game winning run in the third. Mouton hit a solo home run that would bounce off the left center wall, his seventh homer of the season.
The Bengals get back to LCCAC play this weekend with a road trip to the New Orleans area to face Nunez CC for a three-game series. A Saturday doubleheader kicks off the action at 2:00PM.
