EUNICE, La. –
Jaxon Landreneau (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) became the first known LSUE Baseball player to hit for the cycle, part of a slew of offensive fireworks during LSUE's Friday doubleheader sweep of Southeast Arkansas at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (21-1) produced 31 runs in just 12 innings of work, using 25 hits and 21 free passes in the process.
The Bengals methodically grabbed a five-inning 11-1 run-rule to open the twin bill, followed by a 20-6 decision in seven innings. In the two games, LSU Eunice connected on 17 extra base hits.
LSU Eunice closes out the series with a 12:00PM contest on Saturday against the Sharks.
Game 1 vs. Southeast Arkansas College – W, 11-1 (Five Innings)
The heart of the LSUE lineup shouldered the load to help guide the Bengals to an 11-1 win over Southeast Arkansas College to open the Friday doubleheader. The first four LSUE bats in the lineup combined to go 7-for-11, driving in seven RBIs and scoring 10 runs.
The offense went to work right away, scoring three runs in the opening inning.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) lifted a two-run home run to left, followed by a RBI double off the bat of
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS).
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) added to the Bengal total in the third with an RBI single up the middle. The LSUE lead jumped to 5-0 in the frame after a balk helped
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) score.
Legg provided the knockout punch in the fourth, clearing the bases with a three-run triple to the gap in right. The sophomore enjoyed a 3-for-3 game, driving in three runs and scoring three times. He was joined by
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) and Tyson LeBlanc with multi-hit games.
The mercy rule would be in play after
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) and LeBlanc pieced together run produced base hits.
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) would go the distance in the shortened game. The sophomore surrendered one unearned run off six hits while not issuing a walk. Beversdorf struck out a season-high nine batters in the win.
Game 2 vs. Southeast Arkansas College – W, 20-6 (Seven Innings)
Jaxon Landreneau became the first known LSUE player to record a cycle as the Bengals offensive showcase rolled on in a 20-6 win to close out the day's action. The output keeps an interesting streak intact – now making it 13 straight seasons a Bengal club has scored at least 20 runs in a game, dating back to the 2013 season.
Landreneau began his big night getting one of the harder hits in the cycle out of the way – a home run. The redshirt freshman launched a two-run bomb to left center, breaking a tie and giving LSUE a 4-2 lead it would never surrender. The homer was part of a seven-run second inning.
A single to left field followed in the third inning and the double came in the fourth- driving in two more runs to push the LSUE lead to 10-5.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) added a three-run homer of his own in the inning.
The cycle would be completed with a two-out triple down the left field. Landreneau would finish 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. He was joined by Mouton and
Dylan Bell (Moss Bluff, LA, Sam Houston HS) who each produced four RBI games.
LSUE would collect 11 extra base hits in the game including four home runs. Landreneau was joined by Mouton, Bell, and
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) leaving the yard.
The Bengals emptied the bullpen for the mercy rule affair as
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) picked up his first collegiate win. Spangler tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four batters and giving up a hit and a walk.
