EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used early offense and clutch pitching late to secure a 5-4 win and a series sweep of Southeast Arkansas on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (22-1) has swept all six weekend series against a single opponent this season.
The Bengals jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning after
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) uncorked a two-run home run, his second long ball of the weekend.
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) would manufacture another run in the third after executing a first-and-third situation.
After the Sharks got on the board in the fourth, the Bengals responded with two more runs including a
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) RBI single, padding the LSUE to 5-1. LSUE wouldn't be home free just yet as Southeast Arkansas plated three runs in the sixth to make it a one run game.
The bullpen duo of
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) would put the clamps on the Sharks offense down the stretch, pitching 3.1 innings of shutout relief. Mabry would go 2.1 innings, working around a hit and a walk. Ashworth grabbed his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning including one strikeout.
Dupuy was the hot hand at the plate, connecting on three of the team's five hits for the afternoon.
