BATON ROUGE, La. – A pair of come from behind victories were the story for LSU Eunice's Saturday doubleheader at Baton Rouge CC, splitting the two dramatic games. The setback dealt the Bengals (40-2) their first loss in more than two months.
LSUE piled up a 28-game win streak from February 16 to April 12, the fourth longest win streak in program history.
The Bengals rallied from a seven-run first inning deficit to take a 13-10 opener in eight innings. LSUE would see a late lead evaporate with the Bears walking off the finale, 5-4.
The Bengals and Bears close out their regular season series on Sunday with a nine-inning game set for 1:00PM from Pete Goldsby Field.
Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 13-10 (Eight Innings)
LSU Eunice showed resolve in its doubleheader opener, rallying for a 13-10 win over Baton Rouge in extra innings. The Bengals rallied from a seven-run deficit, their largest come-from-behind victory since an eight-run comeback against Coastal Alabama CC-South during the 2020 season.
LSUE spotted the Bears the big advantage after BRCC plated seven runs in the opening inning. The Bengals responded right away, scoring five runs in the second inning thanks to a pair of two-run doubles by
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) and
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS). LSUE would inch closer in the fourth after a solo home run off the bat of
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS).
The Bengals and Bears swapped runs down the stretch with BRCC holding a 10-8 edge heading into the final inning. After Mouton sacrificed home a home, Dupuy would score from third on a balk to tie the game and send to extra innings. In the eighth,
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) gave LSUE its first lead of the game on a RBI triple and would score on a two-run sacrifice bunt by Dupuy.
Dupuy led the team with a 3-for-6 game, contributing three RBIs and two runs scored. He was joined by Mouton and
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) with multi-hit games.
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) steadied the ship on the mound to pick up the win, tossing three scoreless relief innings. The southpaw gave up one hit and a walk while striking out three batters.
Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC, L, 4-5
LSUE would be on the receiving end of a late game heartbreak in the Saturday finale, dropping a 5-4 decision to Baton Rouge CC.
The Bengals would build a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame, manufacturing runs off an error, a sacrifice fly and a two-run single by
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS). He was joined by Aidan Mouton and
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) with multi-hit games.
The Bears struck for four runs in the seventh, just one of them earned. A two-out error kept the inning alive before a wild pitch and RBI single helped Baton Rouge walk the game off.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) received a tough luck no decision after tossing four innings.
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS) was credited with the loss after tossing 2.2 innings in relief.
