BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU Eunice rebounded from its first loss in nearly two months, running away from Baton Rouge CC 15-5 in seven innings on Sunday. The Bengals (41-2) secured their 19th mercy rule victory of the season.
Both teams came out swinging, each scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) knocked a two-run single before the Bears tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning.
LSUE would score three runs in the third thanks to a RBI single by
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS) and a two-run single off the bat of
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS). Baton Rouge responded with three runs of its own in the bottom half, taking its only lead of the game. The back-and-forth continues as LSUE struck for five runs in the fourth, using four bases loaded free passes and a sacrifice fly by
Aarren Marshall (Allen, TX, Lovejoy HS).
Marshall helped pad the Bengals' lead, singling home a run in the sixth to make it 10-5 LSUE. Milan Obradovich scored on a wild pitch before Marshall came home on a first-and-third steal opportunity. LSUE put the run-rule into play after another bases loaded free pass before Marshall capped off a breakthrough performance, driving in two runs on a bloop double to left field.
The freshman went 2-for-4 on the day, driving in four runs and scoring once. Fuselier led the team with a four-hit outing, joined by Marshall,
