EUNICE, La. – After an 11-game road trip, LSU Eunice Baseball was back to enjoying the comforts of home this week, taking a Friday doubleheader of Nunez CC. The Bengals (44-2) won both games in shortened five inning run rule victories, giving them 21 mercy rule wins this season.
LSU Eunice used a home run barrage in the first game, smashing a trio of long balls early in an 11-1 opener, followed by a 10-0 shutout to close out the day against the Pelicans. The Bengals would hit five home runs in the two games, giving LSUE 60 home runs on the season. It's just the second time in the last 16 years that the Bengals have eclipsed the 60-home run mark as a team, joining the 2021 squad.
The Bengals close out their weekend series against Nunez with a 1:00PM contest on Saturday. LSUE readies for its final week of the regular season, hosting Bossier Parish on Wednesday before a three-game series at home against Delgado CC next weekend.
Game 1 vs. Nunez CC – W, 11-1 (Five Innings)
An early home run barrage helped carry LSU Eunice to an 11-1 win over Nunez CC to begin the Friday doubleheader.
The Bengals wiped away an early solo long ball by Nunez in the opening inning, shutting out the Pelicans in the final nine innings of play the remainder of the day. LSUE took the lead in a hurry using three home runs to grab a 5-1 lead after three innings.
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) got the party started with a mammoth two-run home run to left field in the first, followed by a two-run homer by
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) an inning later.
Jackson Legg (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) added a solo home run in the third inning. The Bengals closed the game and induced the run-rule with three run innings in the fourth and fifth. Mouton and LeBlanc went back to work with RBI base hits in the fourth inning, followed by a run off an error and a game ending two-run single by
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) in the next frame.
The Bengals muscled 15 base hits in the game, with six players recording multi-hit games. LeBlanc tallied four RBIs while Mouton added three.
That was more than enough for
Alec Beversdorf (Seabrook, TX, Clear Falls HS) to improve to 9-0 on the season. After giving up the solo home run in the opening inning, Beversdorf settled down to yield just two hits and a walk while striking out five batters.
Game 2 vs. Nunez CC – W, 10-0 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice continues its offensive dominance with another run-rule of the Pelicans, taking a 10-0 decision in five innings to cap the Friday doubleheader. The Bengals only managed five hits but took advantage of ten walks and two hit by pitches.
The Bengals jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning, capped by a solo home run by
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS). Aidan Mouton added his second long ball of the day with another two-run homer an inning later to push the Bengals' lead to 5-0.
The tandem was back to work in the fourth and fifth innings with Mouton adding a sacrifice RBI ground out before Fuselier lifted a two-run double to the gap in right field. That double was part of a game ending four-run inning, joined by a
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) sacrifice fly and
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) walk-off RBI single to left field.
Fuselier enjoyed a 2-for-2 game, pushing across three RBIs and scoring twice. Mouton added three RBIs and two runs scored, as well.
Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) tossed his second complete game shutout of the season, limiting Nunez to two hits and a walk. The southpaw would strikeout five batters in the game, retiring the Pelicans in order the final two innings of the game.
