EL DORADO, Ark. – After relying on its pitching this weekend, LSU Eunice's offense came to life in a 17-6 thrashing of South Arkansas on Tuesday. The Bengals (39-1) tallied double digit runs for the 25th time this season, while their 19 hits were the fourth most in a game this spring.
LSUE was hot to start, striking for four runs in the opening inning of a pair of two RBI hits by
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) and
Ashton Fuselier (Lake Charles, LA, Sam Houston HS). The two sides swapped three run frames in the third before outscoring South Arkansas 10-2 down the stretch.
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) started that spurt with a solo home run, one of two long balls for the freshman.
Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central HS) added an RBI single to left field to push the Bengals' lead to 9-4.
After Hastings added a two-run homer in the seventh, the Bengals struck for a pair of three-run frames in the eighth and ninth innings. Ashton Fuselier highlighted that stretch with a two-run home run to left field.
Hastings and Fuselier carried the load of the offensive production on the day, combining for seven RBIs and six runs scored. Dupuy and
Tyson LeBlanc (Maurice, LA, North Vermilion HS) enjoyed four-hit games while
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) was another bright spot, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. LSUE totaled eight extra base hits in the game while taking advantage of 13 free passes by walk or hit by pitch.
On the mound, LSU Eunice was able to get its bullpen some work using six different pitchers in the victory.
Caden Tarango (Roanoke, IN, Homestead Senior HS) and
Will Mabry, IV (St. Joseph, LA, Tensas Academy) had the longest outings of the day, going 2.2 innings each. Mabry picked up the win after having a scoreless relief outing, giving up a hit and a walk around three strikeouts.
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS),
Hunter Gambel (Hammond, LA, St. Thomas Aquinas HS),
Reese Ashworth (DeQuincy, LA, DeQuincy HS), and Alex Dupuy also saw time on the mound.
LSU Eunice continues its season-long 11-game road trip with a weekend series at Baton Rouge CC. The three-game LCCAC series is set to start on Saturday with a 2:00PM doubleheader.
