EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Women's Basketball used a career night and late game dramatics to seal an 86-83 win over Jones College on Thursday inside the HPRE Center. The Bengals (12-6) won their third straight game over the Bobcats in the all-time series.
Kamiera McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA, Scotlandville HS) would make her only points of the night count in a big way, sinking a long-distance three-point basket with 6.1 seconds remaining to break a tie game and deliver the Bengals the victory. A buzzer beating contested shot by Jones fell off the mark to send the LSUE bench into celebration.
The late basket capped off a night where LSUE would fend off a pesky Bobcats squad that would claw themselves out of double-digit deficits in each half. The Bengals held a 16-point lead in the second quarter and a ten-point edge in the fourth, fighting off Jones each time.
LSUE built a quick lead to open the game, outscoring Jones 30-20 in the first quarter.
Reesie Jinks (Grant, LA, Fairview HS) tallied 10 of her 13 points in the frame, while
Paulina Reichenauer (Waiblingen, Germany, Salier Gymnasium) set the stage for a breakout night from the German import. Reichenauer scored six points in the opening quarter, part of a career best 29-point performance. The freshman did most of her damage in the third quarter, scoring 13 of the team's 24 points in the frame.
Edurne Diaz de la Serna Munoz (Ripollet, Spain, Institut Palau Ausit) was the other Bengal in double figures, chipping in 17 points including five made three pointers.
The Bengals defense did their part in the win, forcing 31 turnovers while limiting Jones to just 1-for-14 (7.1%) from three-point range.
LSUE will play one final non-conference game on Monday, December 12 against Southwest Mississippi, set for a 6:00PM tip-off from the HPRE Center. The Bengals open up LCCAC play on Wednesday, January 28 at Delgado.
