EUNICE, La. – The duo of
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) and
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) continued their red-hot start to the season, leading the way for LSU Eunice Baseball in a 13-5 win over Wharton County JC on Friday at Bengal Stadium. The pair led the Bengals (11-1) with a combined seven hits and had a hand in eight of the team's runs.
The tag team helped the Bengals jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Clapinski singled home Mouton for the first run of the game, and he would later score on a
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) RBI single.
Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS) drove in the other run of the opening inning.
Wharton County answered with two runs in the fourth inning to cut the Bengal lead to one, only to be answered by Clapinski doubling home Mouton. LSUE pushed ahead for good in the seventh, plating six runs in the innig.
Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS)started the frame with a towering solo home run, followed by Clapinski's bunt being misplayed and an error allowed two runs to score on the play.
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) helped Clapinski score on a double to the left center gap and
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) uncorked a two-run home run to push the Bengals' lead to 10-2.
The two sides would swap three-run eighth innings with Clapinski putting a fitting bow on the evening with a two-run home run that scored Mouton.
Mouton finished a perfect 4-for-4, scoring four runs off a pair of doubles and three stolen bases. Clapinski logged a 3-hit night, accounting for four RBIs and three runs scored. Obradovich and Mitchell also had multi-hit games in LSUE's 15-hit evening.
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) picked up the win after tossing 5.2 innings. The sophomore struck out five batters while giving up two runs on three hits and two walks.
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) and
Mekai Gallien (Rosenberg, TX, Lamar Consolidated HS) also saw time on the mound in relief.
The Bengals continue their series against Wharton County on Saturday with a 2:00PM first pitch from Bengal Stadium.
