EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball could not withstand a pair of big innings as the Bengals fell to Murray State 15-8 on Saturday at Bengal Stadium. The setback snaps the Bengals' (13-3) streak of weekend series wins at 16, dating back to the 2024 season.
LSUE was able to put the first run of the game on the board with
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) doubling home
Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) in the first inning. The Aggies responded with authority, plating seven runs in the second inning off four hits including three home runs.
Clapinski tried to get the Bengals back into the contest, blasting a three-run home in the third inning to cut the deficit to 7-4. After another Murray State run, the Bengals trimmed the game to 8-6 in the fourth, leaving the bases loaded in the inning.
Murray State would again have a big answer, bringing across another seven-run inning in the fifth, building its lead to 15-6.
Tyler Mitchell (Marrero, LA, John Curtis HS) and
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) inched the Bengals a little closer in the bottom half of the inning with RBI singles, but the damage was already done.
Mitchell and Clapinski each had multi-hit games for the Bengals.
LSU Eunice tries to salvage a game of the series tomorrow with a 1:00PM first pitch on Sunday at Bengal Stadium.
