LSUE Sweeps National Park In Sunday Run-Rule

EUNICE, La. - LSU Eunice Baseball secured its first weekend series sweep of the season, shutting out National Park 10-0 in an eight-inning mercy rule on Sunday at Bengal Stadium.  The game also marked the Bengals' (5-1) first shutout of the early campaign.
 
The Bengals set the tone early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) drove in the game's first run with a single, and Jordan Luna (Washington, LA, Opelousas Catholic HS) followed with a two-run base hit to give LSU Eunice an early cushion.
 
LSUE added a run in the fourth inning before breaking the game open in the fifth. Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) delivered an RBI triple and later came around to score, pushing the Bengals' lead to 6-0. The Bengals put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, plating four runs. Clapinski recorded another RBI single, Bordelon drove in a run, and Luna added to his RBI total.
 
Clapinski finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Bengals offensively, while Luna went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Bordelon added two RBIs, and LSU Eunice totaled eight hits and seven walks on the day.
 
For the weekend, Clapinski totaled 10 RBIs while collecting five doubles.
 
On the mound, Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) (1-0) earned the win after throwing three hitless innings with five strikeouts. Dayton Hicks (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS), Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) and David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) combined to complete the shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out eight overall.
 
LSUE continues its homestand Tuesday with its first midweek game of the year against Galveston College.  First pitch from Bengal Stadium is set for 4:00PM.
