LSUE Rolls Past Galveston On Road

GALVESTON, Tx. – LSU Eunice Softball used another explosive offensive performance to take a pair of games against NJCAA Division I No. 13 Galveston College on the road Friday.  The 7th-ranked Bengals (28-9) connected on 30 hits in 11 innings of action, including five home runs to bring their season total to 45 long balls – the fourth most nationally.

LSUE used a six-run fifth inning to secure a 15-7 five inning run-rule of the Whitecaps in the opener, then exploded for a nine-run frame on its way to a 17-9 finale in six innings.  The 36 runs in a doubleheader are the most for the Bengals in a twinbill since scoring 36 in a pair of games against Dallas Christian College during the 2022 season.

The Bengals will head back to Texas next weekend for a four-game series at NJCAA Division I No. 15 Blinn College.  The action begins on Friday, March 27 with a 4:00PM doubleheader from Brenham, Texas.

Game 1 vs. Galveston College – W, 15-7
The late rally helped LSU Eunice pull away from Galveston College 15-7 in a five-inning mercy rule win to start the Friday doubleheader.  The Bengals outscored the Whitecaps 10-4 in the final two innings to secure the team's 10th run-rule win of the season.

LSUE led 5-3 going into the fourth inning and would separate thanks to a four-run fourth inning that included a pair of home runs.  Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) started the inning with a RBI single, followed by back-to-back home runs by Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) and Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS).  Galveston punched back with three of its own in the bottom half of the inning, only to see LSUE score six more in the next frame.

Elisar, once again, started the scoring in the fifth with a fielder's choice to bring home Amberly Dempster (Des Allemands, LA, Hahnville HS).  LSUE used back-to-back errors to bring in four more runs.  Jadyn Yesso (Houma, LA, Houma Christian HS) capped the Bengals' scoring with an RBI single.

LSUE jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings thanks to the top of the Bengals' order.  Elisar set the table with a RBI single and would score on a three-run homer by Harris.  Payton Prince scored Elisar in the second inning.

The trio of Elisar, Prince, and Harris combined for seven hits, 10 RBIs, and 10 runs scored.

Ava Kordish (Bayou Chicot, LA, Pine Prairie HS) improved to 5-0 on the season after tossing 3.2 innings.  Kordish gave up six earned runs off four hits and three walks while striking out three batters.  Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS) preserved the mercy rule win with 1.1 innings of relief work.

Game 2 vs. Galveston College – W, 17-9
LSUE's offense continued to shine against Galveston, taking a 17-9 decision in six innings.  The Bengals were led by a breakout game from Ciara Orgeron (Stonewall, LA, North Desoto HS), going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Orgeron kick started an early rally by the Bengals, down 2-0 in the second inning.  Her RBI double was part of a three-run inning, joined by an RBI single from Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS).  Galveston would tie the game in the third before LSUE opened the game wide open with a nine-run fourth inning. Mya Lanoux (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS), Elsensohn, Makinley Harris, Jade Fischtzuir (Covington, LA, Covington HS), and Ella Mabile (Pierre Part, LA, Assumption HS) produced run scoring base hits before Orgeron smashed a two-run homer to cap the frame and give LSUE a 12-3 lead.

The Whitecaps answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning but the big frame was too much to overcome.  LSUE added five more in the sixth, highlighted by a leadoff solo home run by Zoey Smith (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) to begin the inning.

Orgeron was joined by Mabile, Fischtzuir, and Elsensohn with multi-hit games in LSUE's 17-hit output.  Ten different Bengals recorded a base hit in the win.

Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) tossed four innings to snag the win, improving to 8-4 on the season.  Rachal gave up six earned runs off seven hits and three walks, striking out a pair.  Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) came in for two innings of relief work.
