Bengals Split Start of Blinn Series

BRENHAM, Tx. – LSU Eunice Softball used another strong effort at the plate to split a Friday doubleheader at Blinn College.  The Bengals (29-10) pieced together 23 hits in the two games.

LSUE struck for nine runs in the fifth inning to secure a 14-2 win over the Buccaneers in a mercy rule opener, but a late surge by Blinn handed the Bengals a 10-8 setback to close the day.

The two teams close out their four-game series on Saturday with a 1:00PM doubleheader.

Game 1 vs. Blinn College – W, 14-2 (Five Innings)
LSUE exploded for a big fifth inning to induce a 14-2 run-rule win over Blinn College to begin the weekend in Texas.  The Bengals used seven hits in the nine-run frame including a three-run home run by Ciara Orgeron (Stonewall, LA, North Desoto HS).

Orgeron got the inning started with an RBI triple to score Kadyn Schenk (Kentwood, LA, Jewel Sumner HS) and would score a batter later on a Mia Smith (Scott, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) sacrifice.  Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) pushed across a run later in the frame before Makinley Harris (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) produced a two-run single.  Schenk added a run to the Bengals' tally on one of two errors, followed by Orgeron's home run.  The sophomore finished a single short of the cycle.

LSUE held a 5-2 lead going into the fifth inning.  Makinzey Elisar had a hand in two runs in the fourth inning, singling home Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) then scoring off a passed ball.  Elsensohn joined Karsyn Vadnais (Plaquemine, LA, St. John's HS) with run producing base hits in the second inning.  Jadyn Yesso (Houma, LA, Houma Christian HS) started the game with an RBI single.

Orgeron was joined by Elsensohn with three hit games while Vadnais also had a multi-hit game.

Blinn scored its only runs of the game in the first inning on a two-run error.

Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) went the distance to improve to 9-4 on the season.  She scattered four hits in five innings worked, giving up one free pass while striking out two batters.

Game 2 vs. Blinn College – L, 8-10
LSU Eunice let a late lead slip, falling to Blinn College 10-8 to close the day.  The Bengals surrendered four runs in the sixth inning to give up the lead and going down in order to end the game in the seventh.

It was a back-and-forth game with teams trading four run innings.  Makinley Harris and Jadyn Yesso put the Bengals on the board in the first with back-to-back RBIs, only to be answered with a four-run first by the Bucs.

LSUE answered with a four-run frame of its own in the fourth, using a passed ball, wild pitch, and Kadyn Schenk RBI single to take a 6-4 lead.  Blinn tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game going into the sixth inning.  Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) and Harris pushed across runs to give LSUE an 8-6 edge before the Bucs answered in the bottom half.

Elsensohn, Harris and Yesso each had two-hit games to lead the LSUE offense.
