EUNICE, La. –
Hudson Spangler (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) produced a dominating performance on the mound to guide LSU Eunice to a 5-0 win over Baton Rouge CC on Friday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (23-5) opened up LCCAC play, the first round six four-game series against conference opponents.
Spangler (5-1) struck out a career-high and Bengals' season-high 11 batters in the 7.2 innings of work. The sophomore retired the first nine batters he faced, including striking out the side in the third inning. He would work around five base hits, while not allowing a walk or free pass in the entire outing.
Baton Rouge would give Spangler some traffic in the fifth and sixth innings. The LSUE ace left a baserunner stranded on third in the fifth, and left two more on base in the sixth.
Beau Revord (Jefferson City, TN, Jefferson County HS) pitched the final 1.1 innings, striking out two while giving up one walk.
A methodical approach on offense, LSUE used a bases loaded wild pitch to score its first run of the game in the opening inning.
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) and
Caleb Hastings (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) tacked on two more runs in the second with back-to-back RBI singles.
Aidan Mouton (Rayne, LA, Notre Dame HS) made it 4-0 LSUE in the fifth with a single that scored
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) thanks to one of three BRCC errors.
Clapinski added a towering solo home run to left field in the sixth inning to conclude the scoring. He was the lone Bengal to produce a multi-hit game.
