LSUE Ends Blinn Trip With Saturday Split

BRENHAM, Tx. – LSU Eunice continued a back-and-forth weekend with Blinn College, splitting a Saturday road doubleheader.  The Bengals (30-11) picked up their 12th win of the season against NJCAA nationally ranked teams, earning two victories over the series against the Division I 15th ranked Buccaneers.

The No. 8 Bengals clawed back out of a late hole but fell in a walk-off heartbreaker 5-4 to start the day against Bucs only to rally for an impressive 12-6 win to close out the weekend action.

LSU Eunice continues its road swing next weekend, beginning with a Friday, April 3 twinbill at Bossier Parish CC.  The Bengals travel to Angelina College on Saturday, April and return home on Friday, April 10 to play Southwest Mississippi.

Game 1 vs. Blinn College – L, 4-5
A pitching duel early, LSU Eunice couldn't deliver the knockout blow to Blinn College, falling 5-4 to start the Saturday doubleheader.  The Bengals rallied for a two-run deficit in the final inning before the Bucs walked off with a run in the bottom half.

LSUE showed fight late, producing a pair of two-out runs to tie the game in the final inning.  Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) singled home a run and an error off a Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) grounder knotted the game 4-4.  Blinn responded by loading the bases and scoring the game winning run on a hit by pitch.

The Bengals scored first to begin the game, using a Prince bunt single to plate Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS).  The Bucs answered in the middle innings to jump out to a 3-1 lead.  The tams swapped runs in the sixth inning with Jadyn Yesso (Houma, LA, Houma Christian HS) sacrificing home Elisar.

Elisar and Prince led the Bengals with multi-hit games while Elsensohn scored twice.

Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) went the distance for the Bengals, giving up eight hits and five free passes.  Three of the five runs Blinn scored were earned.

Game 2 vs. Blinn College – W, 12-6
The Bengals capitalized on Blinn miscues to produce a couple of big innings of their way to a 12-6 victory to close out the four-game series.  LSUE used seven Blinn errors to capture the victory.

The offenses came out swinging to start with LSUE taking a 5-3 lead through two innings.  Mylie Elsensohn scored on a wild pitch in the first before Blinn answered with three runs in the bottom half.  The Bengals plated four more runs an inning later using an Elsensohn RBI single, a two-run error on a Makinzey Elisar ground ball and sacrifice fly by Payton Prince.

Elisar brought home another run off an error in the fourth before the Bengals broke the game open with a five-run sixth.  Jadyn Yesso launched a two-run home run, sandwiched between Prince and Zoey Smith (Choudrant, LA, Choudrant HS) connecting on base hit RBIs.

Yesso capped the Bengals' scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice ground out.  Her three RBIs led the Bengals while Prince and Ella Mabile (Pierre Part, LA, Assumption HS) had multi-hit games.

Erika Savage (Kingwood, TX, Kingwood Park HS) picked up her 11th win of the season, tossing five innings.  Savage gave up five runs, four of them earned, on six hits and two free passes while striking out a pair of batters.  Carlei Wheeler (Simsboro, LA, Simsboro HS) finished the game with two innings of relief work.
