Bengals Cruise On Sunday To Secure Series Sweep

EUNICE, La. – It was a fast start and strong finish for LSU Eunice Baseball in an 11-1 five inning run-rule win over Baton Rouge on Sunday to complete the conference opening series sweep at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (26-5, 4-0 LCCAC) swept its fifth LCCAC series since officially joining the conference last season.

The Bengals used a three-run home run to left field off the bat of Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) to take a quick 3-0 lead after one inning.  LSUE plated runs in the second and third after Clapinski sacrificed home Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS), who would double in Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) an inning later.

The two teams swapped runs in the fourth as the Bengals used a Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS) solo home run to take a 6-1 lead.  LSUE would wrap up the game with a five run fifth inning, using a Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) sacrifice fly, two bases loaded walks and a game ending two-run double by Milan Obradovich.

Clapinski led LSUE with 5 RBIs and two runs scored while Obradovich and Bordelon each had two RBIs.  LSUE only needed six hits in the game, taking advantage of 12 free passes from Baton Rouge pitching.

Xavier Woods (Cleveland, TX, Cleveland HS) returned to form with a strong start, improving to 2-0 on the season.  The lefty tossed four innings, scattering one earned run off three hits and a walk while striking out three batters.  Dayton Hicks (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) tossed one inning of relief, striking out two batters.

LSU Eunice hits the road next weekend to take on Delgado in LCCAC play.  The Easter weekend series begins on Thursday with a 6:00PM first pitch from New Orleans.
