DECATUR, Ms. – It was a tale of two games for LSU Eunice, splitting its Thursday doubleheader against East Central. The Bengals (20-7) offense roared for most of the day, outhitting East Central 20-5 in the two games.
LSUE had no problems in the opener, taking it 10-1 in five innings. The Bengals could not convert the back breaking hit, leaving 11 runners on base in a 6-5 setback to end the day.
The Bengals will be back on the road next weekend for games at Kilgore College and Angelina College.
Game 1 vs. East Central CC – W, 10-1 (Five Innings)
LSU Eunice played one of its most complete games of the year, run ruling East Central 10-1 in five innings. The Bengals produced their ninth double-digit hit game of the season, limited the Warriors to just one hit, and did not commit an error in the five-inning contest.
Payton Prince (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) jump started the Bengals' attack in the first inning, tripling home
Makinzey Elisar (Prairieville, LA, St. Amant HS) and then scoring later on a passed ball. LSUE made it 3-0 an inning later after
Karsyn Vadnais (Plaquemine, LA, St. John's HS) executed a bunt single to bring home
Ciara Orgeron (Stonewall, LA, North Desoto HS).
ECCC responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run, its only hit and run of the game.
Emily Rachal (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) logged four innings in the start, giving up two free passes while striking out three batters. She sat down ECCC in order in the fourth, giving way for
Anna-Cate Miller (West Monroe, LA, Claiborne Christian HS), who worked around a walk in an inning pitched.
LSUE added two more runs in the fourth off back-to-back RBI singles by
Mylie Elsensohn (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) and Makinzey Elisar, then would induce the mercy rule with a five-run fifth inning.
Amberly Dempster (Des Allemands, LA, Hahnville HS) delivered a pinch hit two-run double to bring the LSUE advantage to 7-1. Elsensohn followed with a two-run double of her own and would later score on a bases loaded walk.
Elsensohn led the Bengals' attack with three RBIs and two runs scored. She was joined by Elisar and Vadnais with multi-hit games.
Game 2 vs. East Central CC – L, 5-6
LSU Eunice could not get the timely early and a pair of three-run frames for East Central would do the Bengals in during a 6-5 loss to close out the day's action.
The Bengals seemed primed for a repeat of the opening game, loading the bases in both the first and second innings but could not convert a two-out base hit. LSUE would still strike first in the game as
Mya Lanoux (Gonzales, LA, East Ascension HS) stole home on an executed first-and-third situation.
The Warriors would respond in a big way, however, getting three two-out runs across in the bottom half. LSUE punched right back in the fifth thanks to
Jade Fischtzuir (Covington, LA, Covington HS) launching a three-run home run to give the Bengals the lead back, 4-3.
The back-and-forth continued as ECCC put up another three spot, using four free passes and one base hit. LSUE manufactured a run in the sixth to get within one but would go down in order in the seventh.
LSUE outhit East Central 10-4 in the game with nine different players collecting a base hit.
