EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball's offense capped off a red-hot weekend, taking another convincing run-rule win over Southeast Arkansas 18-3 in seven innings on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals (18-3) compiled 61 runs and 53 hits in just 28 innings of play against the Sharks.
Marshall Louque (Lutcher, LA, Lutcher HS) had the hot hand on Sunday, driving in seven RBIs and finished one triple shy of the cycle. His seven RBIs are the most for a Bengal in a single game since Bryce LaRocca drove in eight during a win against Jefferson College during the 2022 season. Louque also scored three runs in the win.
The Lutcher HS product got the scoring started for the Bengals when a misplayed drive in right field allowed two runners to score. He would later score on a sacrifice fly from
Jake Smith (Rosepine, LA, Rosepine HS) to make it 3-0 Bengals after two innings.
Southeast Arkansas scored a run in the third only to be matched by seven runs in the third from LSUE. Louque was part of that onslaught as well, hammering a two-run homer to left field.
Andrew Clapinski (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS),
Mason Bordelon (Marksville, LA, Avoyelles Charter HS),
Milan Obradovich (Tuscaloosa, AL, Northridge HS) and Smith also had RBIs in the frame.
Louque put LSUE in run-rule territory an inning later, doubling home Obradovich. LSUE put an exclamation point on the weekend with another seven-run inning, piling on eight hits in the fifth. Smith got the inning going with a solo home run, followed by
Dalton Sabathe (Pearl River, LA, Pearl River HS) singling home
Jacob Froehlich (Broussard, LA, St. Thomas More HS). Louque ended his day with a two-run single up the middle before Smith connected on an infield single to score
Griffin Cooley (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS).
Froehlich ended the scoring with a two-run single.
In addition to Louque, Smith had a good day at the plate driving in four runs and scoring once. They were joined by a 3-for-3 game from Bordelon and multiple hits by Froehlich and Sabathe. The 18 hits for LSU Eunice are a new single game high this season.
Kade LaCoste (Slidell, LA, Pope John Paul II HS) picked up his second win of the weekend, getting the start and going four innings. LaCoste gave up one earned run off three hits and a walk while striking out six batters.
David Goldapper (Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) and
McCray Jacobs (Johnson City, TX, Johnson City HS) each saw time in relief.
LSUE hits the road during the weekend for a Texas road swing, playing Tuesday at Galveston College and Thursday at Angelina College. The Bengals return home Saturday, March 14 for a 1:00PM doubleheader against Bossier Parish.
